Who wouldn’t want a private space to unwind and relax?  The students at West Elementary will now be able to enjoy such a space.  Callie Boyle and Bobbie Carver were recently awarded $1305.00 from the BEF for “The Sensory Space”.  A Sensory Space is a therapeutic space where students learn how to regulate their brain’s negative reactions to external stimuli.  Beneficial for all students, The Sensory Space safely provides opportunities for students to regulate, develop, engage their auditory, visual, and tactile senses, as well as fine and gross motor skills.

A new Cortical Visual Impairment Learning Kit, $2300.00 will now be available to students in the Butte School District, thanks to a grant sponsored by Special Education Teachers across the district.  The CVI Kit will provide a variety of material and equipment to develop strategies for students with Cortical Visual Impairment and optic neuropathy to participate more effectively in special and regular education classrooms.  The goals of the project include providing students with innovative opportunities to use their unique vision abilities more efficiently and consistently to maximize achievement in academics and functional living skills.
