A Celebration of Excellence

A Celebration of Excellence, sponsored by the Butte Education Foundation, takes place each spring. This celebration recognizes  Butte High School Seniors that have demonstrated excellence in a particular field or area of study.  Students are nominated and selected based on their academics and/or achievements.  Each senior then selects an teacher that has significantly influenced their education.  Both the students and teachers are recognized at the Celebration of Excellence Dinner.  BEF Sponsors at or above $500.00 are also recognized at the celebration.

Elementary School Hall of Fame

To motivate the top students in each elementary school in Butte, Mr. Jim O'Neill and the staff at Margaret Leary School have designed a Jeopardy-type Hall of Fame Competition. Students in 4th - 6th Grade are given a quiz to qualify for the competition. Those students that qualify are then given material to study on the following subjects: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Geography. The students are responsible to learn the information on their own time and in addition to their normal school work. After six weeks of studying and preparation the students compete in a Jeopardy-type setting with the top competitors being named to their schools Hall of Fame. In addition the top five students from each school are invited to compete in a City Wide Hall of Fame where a City Champion is crowned. The program is very challenging and encourages students to go above and beyond their normal work and responsibilities.
